This week I’ve spent time with myself. I have put up curtain poles, made wall art, cushions and covers, a bed throw and some cushions for my granddaughters goody box.
I’ve made 3 small blinds, a pair of curtains and a table settings set. I’ve also made cheese and onion bread, ciabatta bread and cupcakes. You see, I love to feel like I am home not just being in a building that I happen to have domain over but to feel that where I am is where I belong, where I can relax and be who I am on the inside.
I’m reluctant to take a home for granted.
A couple of years ago President Uchtdorf talked about being creative, so many people were shaking their heads and questioning their abilities yet failing to realise that raising a child is creating the man/woman they are to become, making dinner, cleaning the house and even ironing is all creating. Creating a harmony way of life, essential or otherwise is irrelevant but each time we do our duty we are creating.
For some of us we do another kind of creating. Baking or sewing, photography or scrapbooking, writing or woodwork, the list is endless but how many of us really see how it shapes us?
If I didn’t sew or make or write then I would so easily become bored and restless. I don’t claim to be any good but I’m good enough for me and I’m always learning…because that is the beauty of creating…its continuous. Not only are the end results gratifying {and often useful} but there’s a sense of worth, a peace {assuming you enjoy what you are doing!} and in some cases to be able to create is a time out that we all need in some way. It keeps the mind busy, alive and alert. It often leads to someone being satisfied or happy, it endorses the role we have in our lives and those around us. Being creative comes in a world of sizes, styles and shapes…never under estimate what you create.
Being creative is another way to be closer to the Lord, after all, He created the earth didn’t he?
What have you created today?
